My Next Event: Oxford University 22nd January 2009

Divine Rhymes:
The artistic and literary marvels of the Qur'an

A unique event presenting the literary miracle of the inimitable Qur'an, together with captivating melodic recitations from the text. A single book which binds over 1 billion people across the world. Unchanged for over 1400 years yet remarkably relevant to every time and every nation. As the opening event of Experience Islam Term, a series of events brought to you by OU Islamic Society, we explore the marvel that is the holy Qur'an.

The Qur'an can only be described as a unique expression of the Arabic language. This is due to its unique literary form, linguistic genre, matchless eloquence and its unparalled frequency of rhetorical features. We discover the complex nature of its meter, its moving rhythm and sound, all designed to illuminate a text in which there are 'indeed signs for those who are endowed with insight'. In addition, we bring to you a unique opportunity to experience the artistic expression of the essence of Islamic life through truly breathtaking and spiritually uplifting recitals.

Join us for an evening of profundity and enlightenment, brought to us by Hamza Andreas Tzortzis on 'The Inimitable Quran' from London and Quranica with 'The Glorious Recital' from Edinburgh, featuring Imam Ahmed Sa'ad, Imam of North London Central Mosque and an expert in the science and art of Quranic recitation.

Date: Thursday 22/01/09
Venue: Michael Pilch Studio, Jowett Walk
Time: 7pm
